Free Sound Recorder allows you to save as an audio file any sound stream currently being played by your soundcard. This can help you in many ways – you can record Internet music, live shows, mixed sounds, or any sound coming through your microphone. You can also use this program to digitize the music in your old cassettes or vinyl records, to mention but a few of its many applications.
The program supports only four audio formats for the output files - MP3, WMA, WAV, and Ogg. However, this is compensated with many interesting and helpful features. For example, you can schedule sound recordings on a single, daily or weekly basis, specifying the exact start and stop times. Another key feature is called the "Voice Active System", which is capable of detecting and suppressing the silence from your recordings automatically. Not to mention that the program allows you to set hot-keys to start and stop the recording. Free Sound Recorder also provides you with Automatic Gain capabilities.
Besides all the features mentioned above, the program also allows you to configure the detailed parameters of your output file fully. These include the bit rate, the number of channels, and the general quality. You can configure all these parameters either by selecting a preset from a list, or by tweaking them individually. This makes the program suitable for both beginners and experts. more
